BEST DAY EVER! Radio Disney Night with Temecula Road & Savannah Keyes

By Angela Mangum

Hours before the show, we were just getting to know each other.  The music sharing started with Savannah singing her BEAUTIFUL melody, "Let Me Be" for the Terra Tunes during the Question and Answer session.  The Terra Tunes opened the show with Pachelbel's famous melody, jammed out with "Ease on Down the Yellow Brick Road" and then ALL of the Terrapins joined in on our theme song for the year,  "Try Everything." Temecula Road lit up the night with their wonderful tunes!  No longer strangers, the night finished off with our newest Tar River Family members leading the singing of "If I Would Have Kissed You."  What a positively charged night!!!!  A HUGE Thank You to Give a Note, the CMA Foundation, and Radio Disney for making new Forever Memories for our students!  Go to iTunes today and purchase your own copy of  "If I Would Have Kissed You."  It is a win-win situation!  You get great music and the kids of Temecula Road know that you care about them and enjoy their music!

I began my music path with piano lessons from my grandma when I was four years old. I continued with recorder at home and added flute, bassoon and mellophone while attending school in Highland, Indiana. I was active in choirs through all school levels, and also participated in swing choir, jazz band, orchestra and theater. After serving in West Germany in the Army for 3 years in telecommunications, I attended the WONDERFUL music education program at Meredith College, and earned by Bachelor of Music in Music Education Degree, with a concentration in Composition. I studied Music Education with Dr. Francis Page, Music Composition with Dr. Anthony Vaglio and voice with Jennifer Robinson. I've developed and taught courses for general music, chorus, drama, keyboards, recorders and strings. This year I am creating percussion and guitar units to learn with our new instruments from the "Music Inspires" Grant from Give a Note and CMA. Building strong music programs is my passion, and high quality music education for all is my mission
My students have been selected to perform as members of the NC Middle and Elementary Honors Choruses over 50 times. Entering my 22nd year as a public school music teacher, I am proud to be leading the Music In Our Schools efforts as chair for NC, and providing assistance to NAfME. I am an active member of NC Music Educators Association and former District 11 President. Last year I received several honors, including NC Elementary Music Teacher of the Year, CMA Teacher of Excellence, Radio Disney ARDY Award, Give a Note Music Inspires Winner, QuaverMusic Super Teacher, Granville County Teacher of the Year and Tar River Elementary Teacher of the Year. WOW!!! What an AMAZING YEAR!!!
Star Spangled Banner - Francis Scott Key (verses 1, 2, and 4)
Star Spangled Banner - Francis Scott Key (verses 1, 2, and 4)
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
